Benzene

Benzene is an organic chemical compound with the molecular formula C6H6. Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon, meaning it has a planar ring of six carbon atoms with alternating single and double bonds. Benzene has a ring-shaped structure with six carbon atoms connected by alternating single and double bonds. This unique structure gives it special properties. Benzene is primarily produced as a byproduct of the petroleum refining process, particularly during the catalytic reforming of naphtha.

Physical Property:

  • Benzene is a colorless liquid.
  • Benzene is immiscible with water but miscible with organic solvents like ether, alcohol, carbon disulfide, etc.
  • Highly flammable, Volatile liquid.
  • It has Sweet, aromatic odor.

Application:

  • Used in Production of various materials like Styrene, Cumene, Phenol, Aniline Etc.
  • Benzene is used as a solvent in the manufacturing of tires.
  • Benzene used in solvent in the production of detergents, dyes, pesticides.
  • Used as an additive in fuel for increasing their octane level and enhance fuel Perfromance.
